Briery Gap
Transition Year Drama Festival
Orla Hughes, an Innovations
Student in Gorey, entered The Briery Gap Transition Year Drama
Festival with 3 other students in her school, Colaiste Bhride,
Carnew. They performed an extract of the Brian Friel play
"Lovers."
The play has only 4 characters, 2 students, Maggie (played by
Orla Hughes) and Joe (played by Ben Cooper) and two Narrators
(played by Sharon and Anto). Mag and Joe are two 17 year olds,
about to do their final exams in a school in Northern Ireland,
who are going to be married because she's pregnant, who have
lots of potential, and who die in an entirely tragic boating
accident. Brian Friel really gets in the heads of two 17 years
olds.
The group got through to the All-Ireland Finals in Macroom,
Co.Cork where they made it to the last 12.
